The 47th/50th joint meeting of the RCC Commission for the Coordination of International Cooperation (CIC) and the Working Group on the Work with International Telecommunication Union (ITU WG) was held on 28 August 2024 in Bayet, Kyrgyz Republic.

The meeting was welcomed by Bella Cherkesova, Chair of the RCC Commission for the Coordination of International Cooperation, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, who outlined the scope of work to be carried out during the meeting.

The Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Seizo Onoe, whose personal participation in the meeting was an important element of preparation of RCC communications administrations for the forthcoming ITU World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (hereinafter referred to as WTSA, Assembly), also addressed the meeting.

The First Deputy Minister of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhumamudun Zhumaliev also addressed the participants of the meeting, who warmly welcomed them to the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic and wished the meeting to make coordinated decisions on the most important issues on the agenda.

The key topic of the meetings was preparations for the upcoming WTSA to be held in New Delhi, India, already in October this year: the meeting agreed more than two dozen proposals to the draft RCC Common proposals for WTSA-24 and approved nominations of RCC Communications Administrations to the WTSA 2024 leadership positions and to the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector Working Bodies. The meeting successfully held a special interregional session dedicated to the preparation for WTSA, where representatives of other regional telecommunication organisations presented their preparations for the forthcoming Assembly.

The participants of the meetings also discussed topical issues related to the preparation of the RCC Communications Administrations for important international events in the field of communications, in particular, the forthcoming block of meetings of the ITU Council Working Groups and Expert Groups, the Global Regulators Symposium and meetings of the ITU working bodies on telecommunication/ICT statistics to be held in autumn this year, the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 to be hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan next year, and others.

The meeting considered the results of the ITU major industry events in the first half of this year, the results of the Regional Development Forum for the Region of the Commonwealth of Independent States, key decisions of the June session of the ITU Council, issues of relevance to the RCC Communications Administrations regarding the activities of the ITU Radio Regulations Committee and the Advisory Group of the Member-States on the ITU headquarters construction project, as well as the results of the ICT Statistics Week for the CIS Region.

It is important to note that during the 47/50th joint-meeting of the CIC and ITU WG it was decided to form a Joint Expert Group of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States on ICT statistics.
