A joint meeting of the International Telecommunication Union, the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee and the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications on the development of ICT statistics in the CIS region was held on 27 June 2024 in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting was opened with a video message by Konstantin Laikam, Chairman of the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee (CIS Stat Committee).
Welcoming words to the participants of the meeting were also addressed by:
- Natalia Mochu, Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for the CIS,
- Alexey Borodin, Director General of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC).
The discussions took place in three sessions on the following topics:
1. ICT Statistics in the CIS Region: Practice and Perspective,
2. ITU methodological approaches to working with ICT data: ICT Development Index, digital skills assessment,
3. Visualisation of indicators as a tool for data dissemination.
The first session of the meeting heard the experience of the national statistical offices of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Research University Higher School of Economics in measuring ICT statistics. In addition, the session presented information on the activities of the CIS Statistical Committee on ICT statistics within the framework of the project "Development of CIS Statistics".
The Meeting was also presented the outcomes of the three-day ITU training workshop and the strategic expert session on ICT statistics, which took place within the framework of the ICT Week for the CIS region.
The second session focused on methodological approaches to working with ICT data, in particular the ITU ICT Development Index methodology and the methodology and findings of the study on digital skills in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The third session presented the visualisation of ICT indicators in the CIS Stat Committee's Sustainable Development Goals monitoring and summarised the results of the Student Hackathon on Data Visualisation "Bridging the Digital Divide" and awarded the participants.
