In Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, during the 56/45th joint meeting of the RCC Commission on Postal Communications and the RCC Council of Postal Operators on 17 May 2024, a solemn ceremony of stamping with a commemorative special stamp dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union was held, which was put into circulation by the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 10 May 2024.
On 09 October 2024, the entire international postal sector will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union. In connection with this important event, it was decided to issue commemorative postage stamps dedicated to the Union's anniversary by all UPU member countries.
The Republic of Uzbekistan has been a full member of the UPU since 1994 and, within the framework of the organization, is engaged in mutually beneficial cooperation with other postal administrations. A special postage stamp was prepared by the designated postal operator of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekiston Pochtasi.
The postage stamp depicts the architectural symbol of Bukhara - the Kalyan Minaret erected in the 12th century, a beacon for Silk Road caravans in the desert sea, a real stone giant 47 metres high that soars to the very sky. Also on the stamp is a special anniversary logo provided by the UPU International Bureau.
Alexei Borodin, RCC Director General, and Mirza Matyakubov, head of the Postal Communications Department of the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, took part in the joint stamp-issuing ceremony.
