The 1st African Group Preparatory Meeting for World Telecommunications Standartization Assembly (WTSA-24) of the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) was held from 15-16 February 2023.
The event was attended by over 100 delegates from ATU Member-States and observers, including representatives from regional and international organizations.
Representatives of the Communications Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation, as well as the staff of the RCC Executive Committee attended this meeting on behalf of the RCC.
The meeting was opened and welcomed by the Secretary General of the African Telecommunication Union - John Omo.
The Director of the International Telecommunication Union's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, Seizo Onoe, welcomed the participants.
The meeting was moderated by Alice Koech, Programme Coordinator of the African Telecommunication Union.
The main objective of the meeting was to update the ATU information on the preparations for WTSA-24 and to formulate the Common Proposals and Positions of the ATU Member-States.
The agenda included the following main items of work:
1. ITU-T report on the main outcomes of WTSA-20 and information on preparations for WTSA-24;
2. The ATU's report on the outcome of Africa's participation in WTSA-20;
3. information on the status of preparations for WTSA-24 from other regional organizations;
4. Consideration of the proposed structure and working methodology for WASA 24;
5. Consideration of inputs.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary-General of the African Telecommunication Union, John Omo, thanked all participants for their fruitful work at the event.
