A coordinational meeting with the regional unions was held at UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, on October 26, 2022.
Mr. Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, opened the meeting.
In his remarks, he noted the importance of the Regional Unions in the Universal Postal Union.
Representatives from regional organizations attended the meeting: SAPOA, WAPC, EACO, PUASP, PAPU and the Regional Commonwealth in Communications.
Members of the UPU Administrative Council - representatives of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation took part from the Regional Commonwealth in the field of communications:
- Natalia Gordeenko, Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus;
- Baidashevna Aigerim, Director of GR and External Relations Department of Kazpost JSC;
- Oleg Syromyatnikov, Advisor of Deputy General-Director for International Business and Interaction with International Organizations of Russian Post JSC.
Oleg Syromyatnikov spoke on behalf of the Regional Communications Commonwealth. He thanked Masahiko Metoki for the great attention paid to the Regional Unions. This policy of cooperation for development aims to strengthen the role of the Regional Unions and better integrate their contributions into the work of the Union.
The meeting included a presentation by Mr. Mutua Mutusi, Director of Development and Cooperation of the UPU IB, on "The level of implementation of the Global Development Cooperation Strategy 2022-2025 and planned activities" and a discussion on the Extraordinary Congress in 2023.
In accordance with Article 101.4 of the General Regulations, the 2023 Extraordinary Congress will be held from October 2 to 6, 2023.
