The 2nd ATU meeting for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22) was held on 30 May to 1 June 2022 by videoconference.

The 2nd meeting was attended by more than 80 representatives of regional and international telecommunication organisations.

The RCC delegation, consisting of representatives of the Communications Administrations of the Russian Federation, as well as the staff of the RCC Executive Committee, participated in the meeting.

The meeting was moderated by Alice Koech from ATU.

The ATU Secretary General, John Omo, opened the meeting and welcomed the participants. Also the General Director of the Department of Communications and Digitalization of South Africa, Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani, made a welcoming speech.

Hassina Laredj, Algeria, was elected as a Chairperson of the meeting.

Ann-Rachel Inn, ITU Regional Head for Africa and Alexandru Kozma, Head of International Organizations, ANCOM, made a presentation at this meeting on preparations for PP-22.

PP-22 Chairperson Sabine Sarmache also gave welcoming remarks.

The agenda of the 2nd meeting of the ATU Preparatory Group for PP-22 included the following items:

1. Update from ITU on the PP-22 preparations and council discussions;

2. Report on the first ATU preparatory meeting for PP-22;

3. Noting the preliminary views/positions of other regional telecommunication organisations;

4. Update from Romania, the host country of PP-22, on preparations for PP-22;

5. Consideration of ATU Working Group reports on PP-22 preparations;

6. Receiving provisional contributions from Member States, REC and Affiliate Members;

7. Consideration of African candidates for ITU and Council leadership positions;

8. Formulation of provisional African Common Proposals;

9. Appointment of a coordinator for inter-regional coordination.

The participants then moved on to discuss the preparations for PP-22 within the ITU and regional organizations. Preparatory reports from ART, CERT, LAS and RCC were presented.

The RCC preparations for the conference were reported by Minkin Vladimir Markovich.

At the end of the meeting, ATU Secretary General, John Omo and Chairman of the meeting Hasina Laredj thanked delegates and observers for their participation.
