On March 21, 2022, the ITU Council Session 2022 was opened in person in Geneva, Switzerland and via videoconferencing.
The event was attended by over 170 delegates from member countries, as well as observers from international and regional organizations.
The above session was opened and ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao and Elsayed Azzuz (Egypt) delivered a welcoming speech.
In the ITU Council Session, Saif bin Ghelaita (UAE) was elected Chairman.
Cesar Martinez (Paraguay) was elected Vice-Chairman.
At the ITU Council Session, the ITU Secretary-General presented a report that reflects: General policy, strategy and planning, ITU activities, reports of Council working groups.
The session was attended by representatives of the CA of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, as well as the leadership and staff of the RCC Executive Committee.
Also at this Session, ITU Deputy Secretary-General Malcolm Johnson presented the Report on the implementation of the Strategic Plan and activities of the Union for 2018-2022.
On the final day of the ITU Council Session, Chairman Saif bin Ghelaita spoke with gratitude for the fruitful work. The Chairman also expressed his deep gratitude for the contribution of ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao to the work of the Council Session.
