On December 1, 2021, the ITU Digital World session took place. ITU Digital World 2021 SME Awards ceremony for small and medium-sized companies. The session was held in a virtual format using the Zoom platform.

The event was attended by representatives of regional and international telecommunication organizations.

The above meeting was opened and welcoming remarks were made by ITU Deputy Secretary General Malcolm Johnson and Phan Tam, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications of Vietnam.

Malcolm Johnson noted that this is the last session of the ITU Digital World 2021 - a series of virtual events that began in September 2021. He noted issues such as the importance of maintaining momentum for digital transformation, the involvement of government agencies in this process, and the need to develop policies that encourage investment.

This session was moderated by Maximilian Jacobson-Gonzalez, ITU Senior Communications Officer.

The awards were presented to winners in five categories: Connectivity, Smart Cities, Educational Technologies, Telemedicine and Digital Finance. In the first category, the winner was a Hong Kong company headed by Alexandra Kalinina. The winners were also companies providing free Internet access in transport, exchange and publication of children's books, and access to medical services.

The discussion was attended by:

- Christopher Clark, ITU Head of Marketing and Partnerships;

- Eleanor Sarpong, Deputy Director and Head of Policy, A4AI, World Wide Web Foundation;

- Pedro Beirao, Co-founder and CEO of Appy Saude;

- Simon Schwall, Founder and CEO of OKO Finance.

At the end of the session, the moderator Maximilian Jacobson-Gonzalez thanked everyone for their contribution to the work of the Digital World and wished everyone success in the field of ICT.
