On May 8, 2026, at the ITU Council session, the Republic of Uzbekistan submitted a proposal to host the 28th World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA‑28) in Samarkand in 2028:

This invitation reflects the high significance that the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the country's leadership place on digital development and international cooperation in this field. Hosting WTSA‑28 in Uzbekistan would make a significant contribution to strengthening international standardization efforts and further expanding cooperation among all members of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Furthermore, the communications administration of Uzbekistan has submitted its candidacy for election to the ITU Council from Region C (Asia and Australasia). It has also put forward the candidacy of Mr. Sirojiddin Usmanov for election to the ITU Radio Regulations Board.
