Second Informal Interregional Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference

On April 30, 2026, on the sidelines of the ITU Council session in Geneva, Switzerland, the second informal interregional preparatory meeting for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP‑26) took place.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ahmad Abdullah Al-Muslemani, the incoming Chairman of PP-26 and the President of the Communications Regulatory Authority of the State of Qatar.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the six main ITU regional telecommunication organizations:

• African Telecommunications Union (ATU)

• Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT)

• Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL)

• Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM), represented by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS)

• European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT)

• Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC).

The meeting participants considered:

The status of the host country's preparations for PP26. Despite increased geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the State of Qatar confirmed that it is closely monitoring developments in the region and still plans to host the Conference.

• The preparation of the ITU regional telecommunication organizations (RTOs) for the upcoming Conference

• The provisional schedule for the time allocation at PP‑26.

During the discussions, Ms. Mlada Rudnitskaya of the RCC Executive Committee presented an update on the RCC's preparations for PP26. She paid special attention to the first package of preliminary drafts of the RCC's Common Proposals for PP26, which had been approved by the 50th meeting of the RCC Commission on the Coordination of International Communication.

The next interregional preparatory meeting for PP26 is scheduled for June 10, 2026.
