CAIGF 2026: Central Asian Internet Governance Forum Launched in Dushanbe

The theme of CAIGF 2026: "Digital Silk Road: From Isolation to Connectivity and Digital Integration."

During the opening ceremony of CAIGF 2026, welcoming addresses were delivered by:

•  Mr. Isfandiyori Sa'dullo, Head of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan

•  Mr. Chris Mondini, Head of Global Stakeholder Engagement for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, ICANN

•  Mr. Vahan Hovsepyan, Senior Community and Public Policy Officer, RIPE NCC

•  Mr. Farrukh Sultonov, Acting Country Representative of the World Bank in Tajikistan

•  Mr. Chengetai Masango, Head of the United Nations Secretariat for the Internet Governance Forum (via video link).

CAIGF 2026 is organized on the principle of parallel sessions, including both main plenary meetings and specialized tracks.

Key themes of CAIGF 2026:

•  Bridging the Digital Divide

In focus: providing affordable Internet access in remote and mountainous areas of Central Asia — NGSO, regulation, investment, and cooperation.

•  Data Governance

In focus: management of and access to digital data — barriers to cross‑border data flows, personal data protection, and convergence of regulatory approaches in the region.

•  Artificial Intelligence

In focus: the potential of AI for solving regional problems — agriculture, healthcare, education — including case studies, ethical aspects, and regulatory models.

•  Cybersecurity

In focus: ensuring cybersecurity in Central Asia — threats, proactive approaches, service protection, and the role of AI (potential and risks).

Ms. Maria Bolshakova, Deputy Director General of the RCC, will participate in the discussion on bridging the digital divide.
