The World Telecommunication/ICT Policy Forum (WTPF) serves as a global venue for policymakers to exchange views and knowledge on challenges and opportunities presented by new and emerging telecommunication and ICT services and technologies. It also addresses broader ICT policy issues and adopts Opinions reflecting the common views of its participants.
The Expert Group's objective is to develop a draft of the ITU Secretary-General's report, including its attached Opinions, for WTPF-2026.
Concluding its three-day meeting on January 23, 2026, under the chairmanship of Mr. Rodney Taylor of The Bahamas, the group was unable to finalize the drafts of five Opinions, including those on:
• The bridging of digital divides, particularly gender, age, skills, and connectivity gaps
• "Green" digital transformation, focusing on climate change and environmental sustainability
• Telecommunication/ICT resilience
• Connectivity in space
• The strengthening of ICT-oriented innovation ecosystems and entrepreneurship.
Work on the draft report and its attached Opinions will continue in additional online meetings. Upon completion, the documents will be submitted to the ITU Secretary-General for presentation to the WTPF.
WTPF-26 will be held from June 9 to 11 in Nassau, The Bahamas. A high-level strategic dialogue will precede the Forum on June 8.
The program for WTPF-26 also includes the third interregional preparatory meeting for the 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26).
