On January 20, 2026, RCC Director General Alexey Borodin met with Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), at the ITU headquarters in Geneva.

The BDT Director highly commended the preparation and successful hosting of the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25) in Baku, marking it as the first statutory ITU conference held in the CIS/RCC region.

The parties also exchanged views on the Conference's key outcomes, particularly the agreement on regional initiatives for the RCC/CIS region and the necessity of adequate funding and project management for their implementation.

Significant attention was given to ITU regional presence. The parties expressed strong satisfaction with the work of the ITU Regional Office for the CIS in Moscow, particularly its cooperation with the RCC Executive Committee as a key element in strengthening joint ITU-RCC activities for the region.

Furthermore, to develop cooperation between the RCC and the ITU Regional Office for the CIS, the Bureau Director proposed jointly organizing two events: the ITU Regional Development Forum for the CIS and an in-person meeting of the Board of the RCC CAs Heads in October in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. This would serve as the final stage of the region's preparatory work for the 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26).
