World Telecommunication Development Conference Opens in Baku

The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Government of Azerbaijan, opened today in Baku. Running until November 28, the conference is held under the theme “Universal, Meaningful, and Affordable Connectivity for an Inclusive and Sustainable Digital Future.”

The Conference is attended by:

• Over 2,000 delegates

• Representatives from more than 150 ITU Member States

• Participants from more than 90 ITU Sector Members

The main goal of the Conference is to revise existing or develop new WTDC Resolutions. These documents will:

• Lay the foundation for the development of national strategies, regional initiatives, and multilateral partnerships aimed at achieving common goals in the field of ICT;

• Facilitate coordination among states, the private sector, and international organizations;

• Define the strategic framework for the future work of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) for the next four years.

The Conference's work is based on contributions submitted by regional telecommunication organizations (as common regional proposals), as well as by groups or individual ITU Member States. Key statistics for this conference include:

• A total of 183 contributions have been submitted, including 30 from RCC member countries.

88% of the contributions relate to existing or new WTDC Resolutions.

12% pertain to the sectoral Plan of Action for the next four-year period, the Baku Declaration, and future ITU-D Study Questions.

Delegations from the following communications administrations of RCC member countries are participating in WTDC-25:

• Azerbaijan

• Belarus

• Kazakhstan

• Kyrgyzstan

• Russia

• Tajikistan

• Uzbekistan

A delegation of the RCC Executive Committee is also participating in the Conference.
