The annual ICANN meeting, ICANN84, will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 25th to 30th.

The main topics of the conference are:
• Preparations for the second round of new gTLDs*, expected in spring 2026,
• Implementation of Universal Acceptance**
• Results of the RDRS*** service over the past two years
• Combating DNS Abuse****
• Preparations for WSIS+20 and the future of the Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF)

Mikhail Anisimov, ICANN Representative for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, notes the special significance of ICANN84 ahead of its launch:

"The end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 are marked by a number of important events: the next round of applications for top-level domains, which the community has been awaiting for 14 years, begins very soon. During this time, significant policy development work has been underway, and the upcoming conference will summarize its results before the start of the new round. Much attention is also being paid to issues of information security and DNS resilience, the impact of geopolitical factors on the ICANN ecosystem, and Internet governance".

*New Generic Top-Level Domains (NGTLDs) are new generic top-level domains (GTLDs) that have been formally approved by ICANN to expand the Internet's domain name registration capabilities.

**Universal Acceptance (UA) is the principle that all domain names and email addresses are correctly accepted, validated, stored, processed, and displayed by all Internet applications, devices, and systems.

***Registry Disclosure Reporting System (RDRS) is a reporting and disclosure system developed by ICANN for top-level domain registrars.

****Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed system of domain names that serves as a "translator" between human-readable website addresses and digital IP addresses.
