July 27-30, 2020, Videoconference

The third African preparatory meeting for the 2020 ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-20) is being held on July 27-30, 2020 via Zoom videoconference.

On the eve of July 27, 2020, the ATU Regional OTT Forum was held. Forum theme: “Collaboration and the basics of collaboration: building sustainable partnerships using the OTT technology”.

The ATU Preparatory Meeting for the WTSA-20 was held on 28 July 2020.

The event was attended by over 170 representatives of ATU members, regional and international telecommunication organizations.

The meeting opened with greetings from ATU General Secretary John Omo and Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Chae Sub Lee.

In the framework of the 3rd African preparatory meeting for WTSA-20 ITU the following issues were considered:

1. Report on the outcome of the 2nd African Preparatory Meeting for ITU WTSA-20.

2. ITU updates on the preparatory process for WTSA-20.

3. Highlights of the main results of the work of the ITU-T Study Groups and the ITU-T Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group.

4. Information from ITU Regional Organizations on WTSA-20 agenda items.

Under item 4, the representatives of all six major ITU regional organizations made presentations on the preparation for WTSA-20: the African Telecommunication Union (ATU), the Asia-Pacific Telecommunication (APT), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunication Administrations (CEPT), the League of Arab States (LAS ), The Inter-American Commission on Communications (CITEL) and the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC).

At the above meeting the RCC delegation was represented by representatives of the Communications Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, FGUPNIIR and the leadership of the RCC Executive Committee.

Chairman of the RCC Working Group on work with the ITU at the International Coordination Council V. M. Minkin presented to the participants of the meeting the draft RCC General Proposals to WTSA-20.

On 29 and 30 July 2020, the 3rd African Preparatory Meeting for ITU WTSA-20 will be held in a closed format for the ATU Member-States.
