The RCC Deputy Director General participated in virtual consultations on preparations for WSIS+20

The purpose of the consultations was to:
• consider the views of stakeholders in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process on key elements of the future WSIS review, and in particular,
• hear comments on the Zero Draft of the WSIS+20 outcome document, which will serve as a starting point for the upcoming year-end discussions at the UN General Assembly.

During the consultations, the RCC Deputy Director General Maria Bolshakova presented the content of the RCC Contribution to the WSIS+20 consultations—the RCC Declaration on the WSIS+20 Theme. She noted the need, with regard to the Zero draft, to:
• explicitly acknowledge the role and mandate of the International Telecommunication Union in organizing the WSIS and coordinating follow-up activities;
• clearly outline the hierarchy in relation to the WSIS outcome documents and relevant UNGA and ECOSOC resolutions, and the relationship of the Global Digital Compact with them;
• focus on the results achieved and areas for further work in accordance with the content of the WSIS outcome documents, while equally analyzing the implementation of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society;
• proceed from a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in the process, taking into account their level of responsibility.

Comments provided during the consultations will be taken into account in preparing the next version of the draft WSIS outcome document.
