The International Astronautical Congress will be held in Samarkand in 2028

At the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which took place this year from September 29 to October 3 in Sydney, Australia, thousands of international experts unanimously voted for Samarkand to host the 2028 IAC.

This year's IAC theme is "Sustainable Space: Sustainable Earth".

This will be the first time the Congress will be held in the Central Asian region.

Bahrain and India also competed for the right to host the event.

"Winning the competition with such countries was no easy task",

noted Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who also participated in the Congress in Sydney.

The IAC, which will be held in Samarkand, is expected to:
• attract over 10 000 international guests,
• spark a new wave of interest among young people in the study of astronomy and space sciences, becoming an important platform for the development of science and technology in the Central Asian region,
• generate significant economic benefits in tourism, services, and entrepreneurship through international exhibitions, bringing significant revenue to the economy of Uzbekistan.

In 2026, the IAC will be held in Antalya, Turkey, and in 2027 in Poznan, Poland.
