ITU Council decides on the venue for the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference

One of the central issues of the 2025 ITU Council session was the decision on the venue for the World Radiocommunication Assembly and World Radiocommunication Conference 2027.

Rwanda and the People's Republic of China put forward their candidacies to host WRC-27, but following a fruitful negotiation process, Shanghai, China, remained the only venue proposed in accordance with the official procedure - Rwanda withdrew its candidacy.

At the same time, on the day of the start of the ITU Council session, a proposal was published from the United States of America to hold WRC-27 in Geneva and then in the USA without specifying the city.

Following a vote initiated by the PRC, the Council agreed on Shanghai, China, as the venue for the next WRA and WRC - this decision will be sent to all Member States of the Union for approval.
