On July 7, 2020, the Regional Regulatory Roundtable Discussions for Europe and the CIS was held as part of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-20) "The Regulatory Wheel of Change: Regulation for Digital Transformation" via videoconferencing.
The meeting was opened by the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
Representatives of the Communications Administrations of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan and representatives of the RCC Executive Committee took part in the Regional Regulatory Roundtable Discussions for Europe and the CIS.
The interregional roundtable was organized as part of the preparation of the GSR-20 guidelines and was aimed at engaging national regulators from countries of Europe and the CIS, as well as other stakeholders, to advance discussions on regulating digital transformation in the post-COVID-19 period.
The agenda included the following issues:
- on the main working points of GSR-20 and guidelines for the usage of the best experience;
- on the main trends in the region;
- on the approaches of national regulatory authorities to stimulate digital transformation in the period after the COVID-19 pandemic;
- on the outcomes and further actions.
The Chairman of the High-Level Working Group on the Development of the Information Society, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Velizade Elmir Tofig oglu presented the vision of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications and made a presentation.
The outcomes of the roundtable will be reflected in the Guidelines of the 2020 Global Symposium for Regulators from a regional perspective.
