
Today, June 17, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, the Council of the International Telecommunication Union began its annual session.
The session will last until June 27 and will cover a wide range of key issues for the functioning of the Union, in particular:
- Report on the implementation of the Strategic Plan and on the activities of the Union in 2024-2025.
- Formation of ITU's Financial and Operational Plans for the coming period - Human and financial resources of the Union
- Transformation of the Union in order to better fulfill its mandate and improve the organizational effectiveness of ITU
- Activities of the Union's Sectors and working bodies, in particular, progress in fulfilling the instructions of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, the Union's highest body
- The functioning of the secretariat, its accountability to ITU members and within the UN system
- Preparation for the upcoming ITU conferences and assemblies in 2025-2026
- The Union's involvement in discussions on major issues on the digital global agenda
The session is being chaired by Cristiana Flutur, Romania.
The ITU Council session is attended by delegations of the Member-States of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications.:
- from the Republic of Azerbaijan — as the only member of the ITU Council, which is part of the RCC
and as observers of the Council's Delegation:

- Kyrgyz Republic
- Russian Federation
- Republic of Uzbekistan
