
The annual M360 Eurasia Conference organized by the GSMA takes place in Tashkent on 21-22 of May
The Conference was kicked off by the plenary session “Unlocking Eurasia's Digital Potential”
Participants discussed how the region's position as a vital digital bridge from Asia to Europe allows its countries to shape their future through innovation, inclusion and strategic investment.
John Giusti, Director of Regulatory Affairs at the GSMA, moderated the session and panelists included:
- Alexey Borodin, RCC Director General
- Tomas Lamanauskas, Deputy Secretary General of ITU
- Andrey Pyatakhin, CEO of Beeline Uzbekistan
- Zarina Zeynalova, President of Azercell
During the discussion, the RCC Director General noted that to further unlock the digital potential of countries in the region, work is needed to equalize regulation or build common approaches to it at the regional level - in particular by removing intra-regional regulatory barriers - in areas such as:
- taxation
- customs duties
- roaming
- digital financial services
- application and mutual recognition of electronic digital signatures
- digital logistics services
Among the key areas and priorities of technological development in the region, Alexey Borodin emphasized the development of artificial intelligence technology, 5/6 generation communication systems of access to the region and development of the NGSA's own systems, coordination of cross-border RFS assignments.
In addition, he positively assessed the work of the International Telecommunication Union and GSMA in providing technical assistance to the countries of the region.
“In strengthening the region's potential on a wide range of issues play coordination institutions such as the CIS and EAEU, which do not have a supranational character, give ground for strengthening common approaches, while creating a favorable environment for achieving the national interests of their member countries” - stated Alexey Borodin.
