TurkmenTEL2024, the International Exhibition and Conference of Telecommunications, Telemetry, Information Technologies and Broadcasting Equipment, organized by Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, kicked off in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on November 14, 2024.
The event is organized to promote cooperation and innovation in the telecommunications sector in Turkmenistan and Central Asia as a whole.
The TurkmenTEL2024 exhibition program was opened with a welcome address by Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the President of Turkmenistan, and by Mammetkhan Chakyev, Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
“I am convinced that the specialized forum will become an effective platform for exchange of experience between domestic specialists and foreign partners, establishment of broad cooperation, as well as for discussion and implementation of projects of mutual interest,” Mr. Berdimuhamedov said in his greeting.
More than 200 representatives from more than 30 countries of the world and Turkmenistan took part in the opening ceremony.
The start of the conference program was given within the framework of panel session 1 “Digital Transformation: Promoting International Dialogue and Cooperation”. The session was moderated by Ilhami Aygün, President and Executive Director of SSI MonacoSat.
The speakers of the session were:
- Hajimyrat Khudaykuliev, Chairman of the Communication Agency of Turkmenistan “Turkmenaragatnashyk”,
- Narine Sahakyan, Regional Representative of UN Development Programs in Turkmenistan,
- Omer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey,
- Alain Tang, President of ICT Marketing and Sales Department of Huawei Middle East and Central Asia Huawei Technologies,
- Rolf Werner, Chief Vice President, Mobile Networks Europe, Nokia,
- Alexey Borodin, Director General of the Regional Commonwealth in the FIeld of Communications.
In his speech, the RCC Director General focused on a number of issues relevant to the region's current digital landscape, in particular the deployment and access of low-orbit satellite constellation systems to the markets of the region, the importance of the formation of linguistic models in national languages for the development of AI systems in the region, mutual recognition of electronic digital signatures to remove trade barriers between the countries of the region, the digitalization of postal services and their integration with the activities of digital platforms (marketplaces), and the development of digitalization of postal services.
A welcome address by Masahiko Metoki, DIrector General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), was presented by Mario Gonzalez-Montiel, program manager for the European region and CIS of the UPU's Development and Cooperation Directorate.
A video message by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, was also shown to the participants of the session.
During TurkmenTEL2024, which will take place over 3 days, four more thematic sessions are scheduled to take place that will address topics critical to the digital agenda, including: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning, quantum communications, AI-based optimization of communication networks, the importance of cybersecurity in today's digital society and ecosystem, innovative information technologies, benefits and challenges of implementing cloud-based telecommunication solutions for telecom operators, evolution of 5G and 6G communication generations, space technologies and satellite communications, smart city technologies and digital transformation.
TurkmenTEL2024 will provide participants with an opportunity to discuss development strategies, share best practices and develop joint projects that will influence the overall progress of the digital telecommunications industry in the region.
TurkmenTEL2024 will also feature a seminar of the Universal Postal Union on the digital transformation of the postal sector and an award ceremony for the winners of the Digital Solution-2024 innovation project competition.
As part of the official program of the event, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Turkmenistan Communications Agency “Turkmenaragatnashyk” Hajimyrat Hudaykuliev and the RCC Director General Alexey Borodin, during which the parties discussed the achievements and prospects of participation of Turkmenistan's communications administration in the activities of the Commonwealth.
In addition, within the framework of TurkmenTEL2024 events, a working meeting was held between the RCC management and the European Region and CIS programme team of the UPU Development and Cooperation Directorate, during which the parties discussed plans for cooperation between the RCC and the UPU in the near future, in particular, issues of joint events and details of the future Agreement between the organizations.
